Most upright vacuums are actually great for hard surfaced flooring. It makes sense to use the upright as you normally would on carpet, on the floor, then using the hose attachment to get in the corners and sides of furniture or appliances. The catch is, you have to make sure that the upright you are using has a setting specifically for solid floors. This setting will actually raise the vacuum up, so that the sweeping motion of the brushes doesn’t hit the floor and cause scratching.

The higher setting will not affect how well the floors get cleaned because the dust and debris that you will be vacuuming up comes up much easier than the dust and debris in carpet. There are no carpet fibers to snag and hold the stuff back.

The last thing to think about is the wheels of the vacuum. Make sure to vacuum slowly, especially when making turns. Because the surface of the floor tends to be somewhat slick, the vacuum could slide instead of turn on its wheels, and this could cause scratching.

1) Change the bag or canister. Of course, this one is simple but many people make the mistake of letting the bag, or canister on bagless vacuums get too full before they empty the contents. Even a bag or canister that is just 1/3 full can reduce the effectiveness of the vacuum. Make sure to change out or empty bags that get to this level of fullness.

2) Clean the brush roll. Make sure that the brush roll is clear of long hairs, carpet strings, or other things that can cause the roller to snag or can tangle around the roller causing it to jam. If it jams, it the stress put on to the motor can cause it to burn out.

3) Replace the belt. You should check the belt for wear and tear every year. Take a look at the manufacturer’s recommendations on how often to replace the belt. Make sure to replace the belt at the time specified. However, it is also a good idea to periodically check the belt for wear and tear to make sure that it doesn’t snap. This can also cause major damage to the motor.

4) Replace the filter. Often, a vacuum cleaner will continue to work fine even if the filter gets full. However, the filter will not be able to remove all of the dust and debris from the floor and air if it is clogged up. You could be spreading things around the house that you don’t want to breathe in. Again, refer to the owner’s manual for specific instructions on how often to replace or change the filter.

The biggest reason why buying a cheap vacuum cleaner is not a good idea is that it can actually be dangerous and effect your health, and the health of every family member who lives in the house. The problem is with the filter. Many cheap vacuums come with filters that are so low quality that they can’t properly trap the dust, dirt, mold, pollen or any other allergens. Instead of trapping them and allowing you to dispose of them, they suck them up and throw them right back into the air.

Vacuuming these things up and expelling them back into the air does more damage than if you were to not vacuum in the first place. It spreads all this stuff around and you and your family breathe them in. The potential health hazards of this are many.

The vacuum you buy does not have to have the expensive HEPA filter in it to work well. There are other types of filters that do just as good a job of trapping these things and allowing you to get rid of them. There are even vacuums that use water as a filter. Make sure that if you buy a cheap vacuum cleaners, it comes with a filter that will properly trap and remove all of these potentially harmful substances from the floor and air.

1) Car vacuum cleaner. There are vacuum designed to specifically clean your car. They come in different shapes and sizes and choosing one is just a matter of preference for the feel and design of the unit. These car vacuums can be cordless, run off of electricity, or can plug into the cigarette lighter of your car and run off of its battery. Some of the newer ones even have HEPA filters. Kirby, Eureka, and several of the other top vacuum cleaner brands make them.

2) Handheld. These small bagless or canister vacuums are best known by the brand name dustbuster. However, there are many companies manufacturing them, all with different features and price points. The biggest thing to look at here is suction power. You want to make sure that you buy one that provides ample suction to properly vacuum up whatever it is you are trying to clean. Look at the amount of amps the unit uses while you have it on. This will help determine its power.

3) Computer or USB vacuum cleaners. These amazing little vacuums actually plug into your computer and draw enough power from it to run. Amazingly, these tiny little vacuums are actually really effective in cleaning dust, paper particles and other things from your computer keyboard and monitor. They are even powerful enough to clean up the area around your work station.

2) The Dirt Devil Vision Sensor. This upright bagless vacuum has a really cool feature called a dirt sensor. It senses when you suck up dirt and alerts you to it. You can empty the seperate container that holds dirt and other objects that were sucked up by accident.

3) The Dyson Animal. This is known as the best bagless vacuum cleaner for picking up and removing pet hair from carpet, hard surfaces, and upholstery. Very powerful turbine head motor.

4) The Bissel Lift Off. This bagless vacuum is terrific for efficiency. It is light and has great maneuverability. It’s cleaning path is extra wide for speed and it has edge cleaners to grab up everything against the walls or baseboards. It also comes with a canister that can be taken off easily, then used by itself on the stairs.

5) The Bissel Powerforce. This machine is one of the best bagless vacuum cleaners for value. While it’s not the cheapest on the market, it is very well priced. For the price, you get one of the most durable and high performance vacuums on the market.

However, there are problems. First of all, you have to dump out the old water and replace it with new water pretty often. While most water vacuum cleaners are designed to make this process pretty simple, the bad part is that all of the stuff that got removed from the air and trapped inside of the water can get released back into the air pretty easily when you do this.

Most experts say that HEPA filters are just as effective in removing these things from the air and you don’t have this problem. Also, the water can make the vacuum very heavy and difficult to lift or get around. Some of these units can call for up to 1 and a half gallons of water. Each gallon of water weighs about eight pounds so you can see how much weight you are adding to a vacuum by putting the water in.

The one major benefit of these water vacuums that many people love is the ability to fill the water with an air freshener that has a scent of your choice. Throughout the process of vacuuming the house, the water mixes with the air freshener and puts good scents into the air, making the room smell clean and fresh. Some of the air fresheners are designed to get rid of the smell of smoke, pet odors, and other things.
